Resizing Layouts for Tablet, Smart Phone etc

The various gadgets you collect can only show photos at their screen resolution so there is no point at all in wasting valuable storage space with a bigger image. Also, of course, displaying square layouts on a tiny phone is going to make them tiny and require stronger reading glasses!

It's worth taking the time to crop/resize your square layouts since it doesn't take long. It's a useful exercise anyway. It's amazing how different your layouts will look.

I resized mine for a Samsung tablet and Kindlefire which both use the same screen resolution of 1280 x 800. This is one of the standard size selections in Picmonkey so it only took me a few hours to crop over 700 layouts. I downloaded a jigsaw app and spend hours turning my layouts into jigsaws

Many pages lend themselves perfectly to resizing because most of the layout elements are in one section of the page already, like this one which is a cut down version of a quickpage by Natali Designs:

You can use Picmonkey to resize anything - blog headers, greetings cards etc. Just choose the size you want or create a custom size. Picmonkey also has a specific crop size for Facebook Covers which you might find useful.

If you want to sit here with a coffee for a while here's a slideshow of the rectangular layouts I created:

How to do it ...

Click on the first image of the slideshow then use the arrows at the top to work through the tutorial. If you have lots of layouts with "white space" it will be very quick to make cut down layouts. Some pages will be more complicated and not worth the bother. Try it and see. If it doesn't work with a particular page move on to the next one. The object of the exercise is to get a selection of rectangular layouts to display on your device, not to crop your entire scrapbooking collection!

Don't forget to BACK UP your cut-downs folder in case you have problems with your latest gizmo.
